Northenden Golf Club Junior Section

 

 

 

Dear Junior Member and Parent,        

 

The new season will soon be underway and the diary of competitions and matches is enclosed for your information.

 

Competitions

The 1st tee has been reserved for us from 2pm on Sunday’s when we have either a competition or home match.  The first competition will be a Stableford on Sunday the 4th April.  As last year, there will be an entry fee of £1 per competition, which must be paid in order to play.  (Please note, there will be no competitions on Team match days yet juniors not in the team will be encouraged to play after the team have gone out).

 

To ensure the junior are ready for the season I am starting fun / non handicap qualifying competitions every Sunday from the 7th of March. Hopefully all junior members can come to these so they are prepared for the season ahead. Although these events are not in the diary it is very important for the juniors to attend.

 

Team Matches

To qualify to play in the team, players must have been under 18 years of age on the 1st January.  The team for the first match (Home vs Withington on the 18th April @ 2pm) will be picked after the first two stableford competitions and the March non qualifiers.

 

The first round of the B.M.W Junior Championship has now been drawn and we will be playing Dunham Forest Golf Club away, the date is to be confirmed and the team will be picked based upon handicap and dedication to turning up for the Sundays starting from the 7th of March as mentioned.

 

As usual there will be a prize presentation ceremony at the end of the season.

Team Northenden Golf Club (NGC)

'The BUPA 10k Manchester Run took place on Sunday 16th May 2010. 'Team NGC' entered 20 runners on behalf of Prostate Cancer Research, one of the club captains nominated charities for 2009/2010. All successfully completed the course and, once final calculations are completed, hope to have raised in the region of £4000.00 towards the charity from this one event alone, a marvellous achievement particularly in such austere financial times. Particularly worthy of mention are the times of Eddie Hickling, 43mins and one of our 'elder statesmen' (in terms of running!) Andrew Taylor, 49mins. Our speediest lady team member was Nicole Lloyd, partner of our assistant professional, who ran a commendable 57mins.

A sweepstake was held for 'nearest the combined team time', (19hrs, 24mins, 22secs) which was won by Dave Hough who predicted a very close 19hrs 35mins and receives 3 free golf lessons courtesy of Alex Mattison, club assistant professional. CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS TO ALL.'
